Objective Evaluation of the Harry Potter Movie Series: Insights from Self-Similar Fractal Sentiment Dynamics<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract: <\/strong>Since the first appearance, the Harry Potter novels and movies series have been widely acclaimed, captivating not only children but also adults. They have gained a good reputation on the two major film review websites: Rotten Tomatoes and Internet Movie Database (IMDb), and have achieved great commercial success. However, the film ratings given by these institutions are highly subjective. Is it possible to find an objective evaluation index based on the sentiment of movie lines? In the view of this, we use the Hurst parameter from random fractal theory to characterize the sentiment dynamics of the movie lines of Harry Potter series. The results show that Hurst parameter is [0.5, 0.7], which means that while each film reveals a lot of interesting information, the plots of the stories have also rather well developed. Interestingly, we have found that there is a good negative correlation between Hurst parameter and the movie scores of Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb, indicating that the Hurst parameter can help evaluate the popularity of the films. This offers a possibility for objectively evaluating movies and provides a reference for investors to decide whether a new movie is worth investing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
