The evolution of digital media constantly updates publishers’ understanding and imagination of knowledge production, dissemination mediums, user needs, and the entire publishing industry chain. The publishing industry, born out of the need for mass communication, has diversified with the emergence of niche broadcasting and social media. Academic publishing inherently has niche characteristics, and its content production, dissemination, and use follow the internal logic of the academic community, suggesting a natural connection between academic publishing, AI, and machine learning. GenAI’s powerful content output based on big data can quickly provide resources for academic production, and its self-learning and optimisation abilities offer many possibilities for knowledge reproduction. The guests of this forum, from the academic publishing industry and experts with deep thoughts on future media, will focus on discussing the impact GenAI has already had in academic publishing, explore its value and problems from multiple perspectives, and further discuss the future of academic publishing. Key topics for discussion in the forum:

(1) Impact of Media Convergence on Publishing: How does media convergence affect the publishing industry? Explore the variety and interconnectedness in the production of converged media content, and examine how readers’ habits and preferences shape content creation, distribution methods, and marketing strategies.

(2) GenAI in Academic Publishing: What are the significant positive and negative aspects of using generative AI in academic publishing? Please give examples.

(3)Evolution of Publishers in Digital Publishing: As publishers transition from supporting teaching and learning to becoming providers of hybrid educational platforms, this change is marked by enhanced collaboration between publishers and universities. What are the current and prospective product and service models in this realm? Please distinguish between transitional and more stable, mature forms in this evolving landscape.
